Jaeden Izik-Dzurko piano
Chopin Prelude in C-sharp minor, Op. 45
Scriabin Preludes, Op.11 (selection)
Rachmaninov Preludes Op. 23

For our final concert we welcome the winner of the 2024 Leeds Piano Competition, who was praised for his impressive maturity and deep emotional expression. His recital features Preludes, which began in the Baroque era as warm-up pieces, but were transformed by Chopin, who was then copied by many later composers. Jaeden begins with Chopin’s final Prelude, sombre and dreamy with an improvised feel. Next are a selection of Alexander Scriabin’s, which the composer admitted were modelled on Chopin’s. Finally, Rachmaninov, though inspired by Bach, Chopin and Scriabin went his own way, producing ten complex Preludes that test the very capabilities of the piano, and are of highlight of late Romantic piano writing.

Our Sunday Piano Series performances are informal and introduced from the stage, and you can chat with the pianists in the bar after the concert and still have time to get back home for Sunday Lunch!
